  • A question of scale

We often get asked to work at a significant scale, so here is what it means!

Scale in our projects

Development projects:
Madagascar - work at sub national scale

On this project we were asked to develop a sub national project and consider its risks on biodiversity and deforestation.

The reference area was 4.6 Million ha.

We worked over a timeframe spanning from time of interest + 25 years for implementation.

Financing requirements reached upwards of 350 Million USD

Ecology projects:
Congo - work at Landscape scale

On this project we were asked to undertake an IFC PS6 compliant biodiversity and natural resources use baseline investigation, including a consideration for offset based mitigation.

The reference area was 260,000 ha where we undertook representative sampling.

We developed a risk framework which we evaluated over a timeframe spanning from planned construction date + 50 years for life of mine and rehabilitation.

The project was expected to cost upwards of 500 Million USD to develop before it generated revenue.

Scale - a concept spanning geography, time and budget

The projects we have worked on spanned timescales ranging from a few months to 50 years, budgets ranging from a few thousand dollars to billions, while geographical scale ranged from a few hundred hectares to national level (350,000 km²).

We do understand scale!
